Become a Volunteer
CAC thrives on its robust volunteer program. We welcome individuals and groups (groups click here) for short and long-term service (scheduling summer 2012!) Whether tutoring kids once a month or organizing a weekly running program, volunteers’ interaction with children is crucial to CAC’s providing holistic growth and nurturing opportunities to families in East St. Louis, Illinois.
CAC firmly believes that there is no wasted time spent with children. Director Chet Cantrell says often, “There is no such thing as ‘just playing’ with kids.” Interaction with positive adults is all-important to a child’s development.
CAC makes every effort to match your skills with our needs, appreciating that volunteers come to us with different gifts and goals. While one person is comfortable hanging out with kids – “floating” to build relationships with children who orbit around them, another may be comfortable with assigned tasks that match their skills. For this volunteer, CAC has a volunteer placement program. Due to space limitations, CAC cannot always accommodate a large number of volunteers at one time. We do make every effort to match volunteer availability with openings at CAC.
To volunteer with kids at CAC, please download and submit a volunteer application. Upon receiving your application, CAC will contact you to schedule your first visit and conduct a background check (required of volunteers working with children once a month or more).
